Britannia Mine Museum at Halloween

Monsters & Machines at Halloween at Britannia Mine (VHE)

Halloween at Britannia Mine Museum brings a seasonal twist to the historic mining site, with interactive experiences and plenty of opportunities for discovery.

In 2026, the museum celebrates Halloween with Monsters, Machines, & Mischief over two weekends in October. The event adds monster-inspired activities, special underground experiences, science demonstrations, and other Halloween surprises to the regular museum visit.

Located along the Sea-to-Sky Highway between Vancouver and Squamish, Britannia Mine Museum offers a unique setting for exploring Halloween both above and below ground.

Halloween Monsters, Machines, & Mischief at Britannia Mine

In 2026 Monsters, Machines, & Mischief takes over Britannia Mine Museum on October 17th to 18th and October 24th to 25th. The Halloween event turns the museum’s historic machinery and underground mine into a playful adventure featuring monster characters, hands-on activities, and interactive discoveries.

Real mining equipment provides the inspiration for a collection of six Monster Machines, each with its own personality based on the job its machinery performs.

The Machine Shop is home to these larger-than-life characters, giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about the cranes, drills, trucks, and other equipment that have been used in mining. The display also connects the historic machinery at Britannia with the equipment and technology used in modern mining operations.

The Monster Machines can be visited during regular museum hours before or after the guided underground experience.

A Special Halloween Underground Tour

The underground mine takes on a Halloween theme with a special Big Machines, Monster Fun Underground Tour. Visitors put on a hard hat and board the underground train before heading into the historic tunnel.

Stories of unusual machine problems lead the experience as the Machine Operator demonstrates how mining equipment worked. Hands-on challenges and activities introduce visitors to the role of compressed air, transportation systems, machinery, and teamwork in keeping the Britannia Mine operating.

The tour also includes timed access to the BOOM! show after the underground portion.

Lower lighting, interactive Halloween elements, and live equipment demonstrations are part of the special experience. The programming is designed to be playful and family-friendly.
